"UTEG educates citizens who lead with values and transform with knowledge."

What academic mission guides UTEG’s educational proposal?

Our mission is clear: to prepare well-rounded professionals—citizens of the future—who are socially responsible and deeply engaged with their communities. We achieve this through a student-centered approach that emphasizes academic excellence, relevant and timely content, and continuous pedagogical support. Yet our goal extends beyond delivering knowledge; we strive to ignite in our students the capacity to lead, innovate and think critically.

In an increasingly challenging and competitive educational landscape, UTEG strengthens its identity as an innovative institution committed to quality, inclusion and sustainable development.

What do you consider the key factors that have enabled UTEG to establish itself within Ecuador’s higher education system?

One of our greatest strengths lies in our ability to quickly adapt to changes in our environment. We are supported by a dedicated team focused on continuous improvement, faculty committed to ongoing professional development and strategic partnerships with key industry sectors. Our strong emphasis on graduate employability ensures that our programs remain relevant and impactful. Moreover, our governance is aligned with quality standards that promote efficient and sustainable institutional management.

Which academic programs would you highlight as flagship offerings of UTEG’s educational model?

Our offerings combine a global vision with local action. We highlight programs in areas such as robotics, cybersecurity, corporate law, foreign trade, sustainability and environmental management. We also strongly promote continuing education through micro-credentials in topics like artificial intelligence and legal tech, among others—these allow our students and professionals to acquire specific skills quickly to meet current market demands.

Above all, delivering education with cross cutting pillars—innovation, technology, internationalization—makes UTEG a modern, relevant, realistic academic option closely connected to the labor market.

What role does innovation play in institutional operations and the educational model of the university?

Innovation is a central and cross-cutting pillar of our institutional operations, driving the automation of academic and administrative processes—including the management of institutional agreements, dual degrees and micro-credentials. It also guides our commitment to sustainability through green campus initiatives, energy efficiency and circular economy practices.

In terms of pedagogical innovation, we offer flexible and accessible virtual learning environments that support personalized learning paths. We leverage artificial intelligence for customized tutoring, early identification of academic risks and intelligent content recommendations. These efforts are complemented by modern laboratories, business incubators and mentorship programs that enhance experiential learning and strengthen students’ connection to real-world challenges.

How does UTEG manage to position itself in a highly competitive academic environment? What sets it apart from other institutions?

I believe our greatest differentiator lies in the integration of institutional, academic and pedagogical strategies that align our operations with both national and international quality standards. Central to this is a thoughtful and comprehensive approach to internationalization—extending beyond academic programs to include transformative life experiences, all while adhering to regulatory frameworks. We offer programs that address global challenges and foster collaboration with public and private sectors, local governments and academic institutions. This working model positions us as a connector of shared issues and ensures our students gain direct exposure to the professional world, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to ongoing societal transformations.

UTEG also maintains a strong commitment to the community. How is that relationship realized?

Our engagement with the community is not peripheral—it’s a fundamental part of who we are. Through pre-professional internships, applied research and outreach initiatives, we collaborate directly with neighborhoods, institutions and social organizations. We drive local development by combining knowledge, empathy and hands-on action. Our students gain meaningful learning experiences not only in the classroom, but also by serving the communities around them. This commitment extends beyond isolated efforts—we strive to transfer knowledge, empower diverse social sectors and create lasting impact, working together to build a more equitable and resilient nation.

Finally, what message about UTEG would you like to share with Newsweek’s international audience?

In a world where education stands as the most powerful catalyst for social change, UTEG embraces the responsibility of shaping global leaders grounded in local identity. We take pride in being part of an academic community that fuses excellence in learning, cutting-edge digital innovation and a deep commitment to sustainable development.

From Ecuador, we extend our knowledge to the world—preparing professionals equipped to navigate the complexities of the 21st century with ethical purpose, critical thinking and a transformative outlook. We invite you to discover UTEG and join us in building a borderless education—globally connected and socially driven.
