Familux Resorts has acquired two new properties, one on the Baltic Sea and one in the Dolomites, with new family resorts now planned for both. It’s the first time the group has expanded beyond its Alpine home base of Austria and Germany since launching in the 1980s. Each resort combines children’s clubs, wellness facilities, and family-only bookings under one roof, all included in the price of the stay.
For three decades, Familux has built its business on one rule: no bookings without children. The rule dates to 1996, when Julian Mayer’s parents made the pivotal decision to transform a small guesthouse into a dedicated children’s hotel. The group isn’t finished — it’s still scouting additional locations across Europe for future resorts, beyond the two just acquired.

Alps no longer the limit
Familux points to one number as proof the model travels: families return year after year, and each return has helped fund another resort. The Baltic Sea and Dolomites acquisitions are the next step for that model, added only once the Familux standard could be fully delivered there. It’s also reinvesting — Oberjoch is undergoing a renovation that adds water landscapes, a signature restaurant, an underground parking garage, and 14 exclusive chalets.
“It’s a strong signal that the Familux concept is ready to resonate well beyond its Alpine heartland,” says Julian Mayer, Managing Partner at Familux Resorts.

Not just another kids’ club
The standard family-resort offer is a single kids’ club and a basic play area, with little distinction made between a toddler and a teenager. Familux built something more layered: up to 25 Kids Coaches and five age-specific clubs at each resort, plus a dedicated children’s water world. Guests also get more than 7,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor facilities, including a range of pools and a Feel Good Spa.
“It isn’t enough to have a kids’ club — ours are staffed by qualified coaches and structured by age group,” says Mayer.
Childcare starts on day seven
Most family hotels start childcare only once a child is walking or older, leaving parents of infants with very few options. Familux offers professional childcare from as early as the seventh day of life, delivered by a team specially trained for exactly that purpose. That’s a standard the company says is rarely matched in the industry, paired with adults-only spa areas and fine dining so parents can actually rest.
About Familux Resorts
Familux Resorts is a family-run group built around one uncompromising rule: no bookings without children. Founded from a single guesthouse in the 1980s and reshaped in 1996 into a dedicated children’s hotel, the group today operates 4-star-superior and 5-star resorts in the German-speaking Alpine region: the Alpenrose and Dachsteinkönig in Austria, and the Oberjoch and The Grand Green in Germany. Each resort has its own character but shares the same commitment to excellence in family hospitality, from thoughtfully designed dining to attentive service.
The group books guests directly through its own channels rather than travel-trade platforms, a choice designed to keep prices stable. Its loyalty program, Familux One, rewards returning guests with points, exclusive benefits, and birthday vouchers. Long-standing partners including BIG, Stabilo, and Smoby also support its children’s programming.
