Empowering workforce development at Francis Tuttle Technology Center

Providing practical pathways for high school students and adults to excel in technical careers

At the forefront of career and technical education in Oklahoma, Francis Tuttle Technology Center is transforming the lives of students, preparing them for real-world success in a variety of industries. From traditional trades like welding and automotive technology to cutting-edge fields such as cybersecurity and biosciences, the center is a vital contributor to workforce development.

“We have a truly strong culture centered around the success of our students,” says Dr. Michelle Keylon, superintendent and CEO of Francis Tuttle Technology Center. “We make sure they are fully supported throughout their learning process. We give them the most up-to-date knowledge so that when they move into the workforce, they are thoroughly prepared.”

Offering over 35 programs, Francis Tuttle trains everyone from high school students to adults looking to advance their careers or change fields. One of the center’s standout innovations is its three career academies, which provide high-level education in biosciences, engineering and computer science. They combine advanced academic instruction with practical technical training, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. To illustrate, its engineering academy students have earned 16 U.S. patents for their projects.

The center also offers specialized programs, such as Project Hope, a dropout recovery initiative designed to help at-risk high school students complete their education while gaining valuable technical skills. Meanwhile, Project Search trains students with disabilities to complete highly technical but repetitive hospital tasks such as preparing surgery kits or cleaning lab equipment. Project Build, on the other hand, equips incarcerated individuals with construction trade skills, enabling them to re-enter the workforce with confidence.

Francis Tuttle’s success is largely driven by its strong system of support and industry partnerships. Dr. Keylon highlights that their teachers are often industry professionals with many years of experience in the field.

With an ever-growing demand for its programs, Francis Tuttle continues to evolve and expand, ensuring that more students have access to life-changing opportunities.

“It is important to continue learning and growing throughout one’s lifetime,” says Dr. Keylon, who has a doctorate in educational leadership and a master’s in occupational and adult education. “The knowledge and job our students gain will be life-changing not only for them but also for their families for many generations to come.”
