SIP pushes limits of premium spirits with Heaven’s Door and other brands

Fusing the talents of artist Bob Dylan, legendary distillers, and other partners, SIP created a brand portfolio driven by innovation, art, and business acumen

Marc Bushala, CEO and founder of Spirits Investment Partners (SIP) has worked with the most iconic collaborators to create his portfolio of premium brands. His partners include Bob Dylan for Heaven’s Door whiskey and Playboy for Rare Hare whiskey and cognac. The company’s brands tell stories of how the industry’s best minds have come together to push the boundaries of super- and ultra-premium spirits. Moving forward, SIP is leveraging its 160-acre distillery in Kentucky to drive its market presence to new heights.

“It can’t just be the celebrity behind the product,” says Bushala, who is also the founder and CEO behind every SIP brand. “The story of the branding, imagery, the bottle, the liquid, and partners – all of these things are very important in building a successful brand.”

Bushala’s initial triumph was with Angel’s Envy whiskey in 2010. Working with legendary master distiller Lincoln Henderson, he and his other partners produced an outstanding whiskey brand they sold to Bacardi in 2014.

When Bushala founded SIP the following year, he had an opportunity to work with Dylan, who had always wanted his own whiskey line. They developed the Heaven’s Door brand, which features an award-winning liquid profile and an image of the artist’s metal gate sculpture on the bottle label. It has three highly successful, limited-edition product lines: bourbon, double-barrel, and rye whiskeys.

Bushala also partners with Playboy to produce the Rare Hare premium-aged whiskey and cognac brand. SIP and Playboy are similarly behind the super-premium tequila brand 3Hares and the Play Hard vodka seltzer, which uses Andy Warhol’s bunny-head art on its label.

The purchase of the Kentucky distillery signifies a monumental milestone for Heaven’s Door. Now home to the brand’s distillery at Six Mile Creek and led by master distiller Ken Pierce, the venture will expand the Heaven’s Door portfolio into new realms. Inspired by Dylan’s restless spirit, the brand’s lineup of core whiskeys and limited releases is propelling category growth, offering enthusiasts globally a more intricate tapestry of whiskey experiences.

“It’s been an exciting ride, and the distillery is going to open a new chapter for us,” Bushala says. “We’ve got a pipeline of ideas that could take us the rest of our lives to bring to market.”
